Two Simultaneous Displays Held Last Tuesday

Last Tuesday saw two simultaneous chess displays take place.

Jonathon Thomas, the reigning co-West Wales champion, gave his first-ever simultaneous exhibition, facing 16 opponents in the church hall—including eight league players. By 9 o’clock, the younger participants had to leave, and as both Advik and Aarush were still holding strong at that point, Jonathon graciously offered them draws.

Elsewhere, the competition was fierce. Blood was spilled over the boards, with Cameron, Leon, and Steve emerging victorious in their individual games.

The final score: +7 to Jonathon. It’s no small feat to play multiple games at once, especially under time pressure. A big thank you to Jonathon for providing such an impressive and enjoyable display!

Hywel was the maestro in the community centre where he had 14 opponents. Play was fast and furious and we were delighted to see that some of the youngsters went on the attack. We want all our children to learn to play aggressively. James Vincent, Virat Nagari and new players Finlay Davies and Anthonio all deserved commendations for their play but pride of place went to Oscar Purcell whose play has improved tremendously in recent months. Not only did he try to attack but he executed a mating attack without fault. Well done Oscar! We obviously have a lot of talent coming along behind our league stalwarts. Final score +13 to Hywel.
